1.10.2016 · The octile distance is used to estimate the distance between two cells heuristically. The respective lengths of cardinal and diagonal moves are 1 and 1.414. A matrix the same size as the map is used to store all the grid points.

Jun 22, 2016 · Jack. You need to sort the distances, max and min are as the name suggests, mid is the middle or whatever value is left. So if you had 3 distances dx=5, dy=2, dz=4 then max=5, min = 2 and mid would be 4. It should be ok if your y-value is the floor of your voxel (it's all just relative after all).

The initial heuristic used here is the so-called octile distance defined as follows in two-dimensional space: Escaping Depressions in LRTS Based on Incremental Refinement of Encoded Quad-Trees. where h (x) = [absolute value of ( [DELTA]x)] + [absolute value of ( [DELTA]y)] (i.e., Manhattan distance), or h (x) = max ( [absolute value of ( [DELTA]x)], [absolute value of ( [DELTA]y)]) + 0.41 min ( [absolute value of ( [DELTA]x)], [absolute value of ( [DELTA]y)]) (i.e., octile distance), or h {x

Jan 22, 2022 · When D = 1 and D2 = sqrt(2), this is called the octile distance. Another way to write this is D * max(dx, dy) + (D2-D) * min(dx, dy). Patrick Lester writes it yet a different way[6], with if (dx > dy) (D * (dx-dy) + D2 * dy) else (D * (dy-dx) + D2 * dx). These are all equivalent. Euclidean distance#
