Chr.) und Kaiserzeit bis zum Kaiser Diokletian (3. Jahrhundert n. Chr.). Der Sesterz hatte ursprünglich den Wert von zweieinhalb As, daher die Bezeichnung „der dritte (As) halb“ = semis tertius (as).
