Jun 03, 2012 · First, the VA doesn't send unofficial letters. Very often the VSO's send them though. Unless you are retired military the award letter and the retro are almost on top of each other. Occasionally someone gets the money first but usually it is the letter and in a couple of days the money. I think mine was about a week and that is long.
