Staphylococcal food poisoning is suggested by the sudden onset of vomiting that is followed by explosive diarrhea, usually within 4–6 hours after ingestion of the contaminated food. The illness is self-limited and usually resolves within 12–24 hours. The diagnosis is based on the typical historical presentation.
