Realizing that the area was a popular spot for more than the local people, the Legislature established Sibley as a state park in 1919. The park was named after Henry Hastings Sibley, Minnesota's first governor. In 1935 the Federal government sent the Veterans Conservation Corps to Sibley State Park.

We pulled in to Sibley State Park - they boast of many acres so we were shocked to see how all the tents and campers were packed into such a small area. There was zero privacy! Bathroom facilities were far from clean. Many dogs were running loose and over all very noisy.

Sibley State Park has three group camps, all with fire rings, picnic tables, running water and vault toilets. Group camps are tents only, and can accommodate between 20 and 50 people.
