Gear machining is divided into two types: gear producing and gear form-cutting. Casting, forging, extrusion, powder metallurgy, and blanking are some of the common procedures used to make gears. Helical gearing is manufactured with the inclined tooth, which is subsequently honed and fixed to provide a full gear mesh.
Single helical gears are manufactured with the same equipment as spur gears, but the teeth are cut at an angle to the axis of the gear and follow a spiral path.
Helical gears used to connect non-parallel shafts are commonly called spiral gears or crossed axis helical gears. If the shaft angle is 90 degrees, the gears will be of the same hand and the sum of the helix angles will be equal to the shaft angle (90 degrees).
