Do not get scared and stand there waiting for your opponent to make a shot. If possible, attack and take control of the ball, this can help to startle them ...

There's this technique of goalkeeping my coach once taught me . Always try and keep your body behind the ball when possible. This way, there's lesser chance of letting the ball out of control or letting it slip when it is hit with some curve or power or both. When you fall down you get to have your chest behind the ball.
