The Frederick County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was created in 1998 and consists of 11 members and 2 alternate members who serve 3-year terms. The HPC is appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. Its primary focus is to review structures and sites for historic significance, review all petitions for designation to the Frederick County Register of Historic Places, and submit recommendations to the County Council.
